Randeep Hooda starrer Swatantrya Veer Savarkar movie has hit the theatres on 22 March, 2024. The movie is also the directorial debut of the actor. The Randeep Hooda movie crossed 11 Cr in its first week of running.

On Day one of opening the movie managed to cross 1.05 Cr as reported by sacnilk. The movie started slow with 8.8% Hindi occupancy for morning shows. The percentage rose to 12.42% in the afternoon show and 15.17% in the evening show. The movie collected 6 cr in the first weekend. After week 1 the movie managed to cross 11.35 Cr.
Movie Cast
Randeep Hooda is playing the role of Indian freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. The actor has gone through a huge physical transformation for playing this character. He has also been compared with the Hollywood actor Christian Bale for his radical physical change. The actor reported lost around 26 kgs for the prison scenes. Actress Ankita Lokhande played the role of Savarkar’s wife Yamuna Bai.
Movie Review
The movie is inspired by the life of Indian freedom Fighter Veer Savarkar, his ideologies and his hardships in the Cellular jail in Andaman and Nicobar Island. The film portrays his Hindutva and “Akhand Bharat” ideology. The movie depicts the ideological difference between Mahatma Gandhi who believed in a non-violent freedom movement as opposed to Veer Savarkar who believed in armed rebellion. The movie also gives us a glimpse of the political angle during the freedom movement. The movie also narrates the hardships and the sacrifices of the armed rebellions.
Initially, the release of the Marathi version of the movie faced issues due to censorship certificates. Randeep Hooda’s excellent performance has been praised by the audience, especially his physical transformation. Although it has been called one sided narrative by some of the audience, however Hooda’s has been applauded for powerpack acting.
As a director, writer, and actor Hooda depicted the turbulent yet controversial life of Veer Sawarkar. The 178 minutes biopic is thought-provoking and shows a new perspective about the historic figures and their ideologies.
