Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 Review: This week, I’ve been testing Huawei’s new MateBook X Pro 2024. It’s very lightweight and small, similar to the MacBook Air. However, like the MacBook Air, it’s quite expensive, priced at around ₹1,88,990. Is it a good value for the money? Here’s my detailed review.
Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 Review with Detailed Specifications
Huawei Metabook X Pro 2024 Design:
The standout feature of the Huawei Metabook X Pro 2024 is how incredibly small and lightweight it is. It’s been redesigned in every way, including the hinges, to make it as light as possible. As a result, it weighs less than a kilogram, much lighter than the MacBook Air, even though it has a larger screen. Holding it, you realize how well-designed it is—it’s about 13mm thick and fits easily into any backpack, even a small Disney backpack my kids use. It’s light enough to carry around all day.
The Metabook X Pro 2024 has a frame made of magnesium alloy, giving it a strong yet lightweight feel. It resembles a MacBook but with differences like soft-touch surfaces on both the inside and outside. Unlike the cold finish of a MacBook, the Metabook feels nice to touch and hold. It comes in black, white, or blue models, each with a matte finish on the lid that stays clean when you carry it around.
Huawei Metabook X Pro 2024 Display:
The highlight of the Huawei Metabook X Pro 2024 is its 14.2-inch OLED display, which is flexible and scratch-resistant. It’s thinner and lighter than the previous model and has thin bezels, giving it a 93% screen-to-body ratio. The display’s 3×2 aspect ratio is great for creative tasks and multitasking with two apps side by side.
However, it’s not ideal for gaming or watching movies with thick black bars above and below the action. It features a high resolution of 3120 x 2080 pixels, making videos and photos look very sharp. Colors are vibrant, supporting Adobe RGB, sRGB, and P3 gamuts, which is excellent for editing photos and videos. At maximum brightness, it’s incredibly bright, which might be too intense for extended use.
The display also includes a five-layer coating to reduce reflections, making it usable even in bright environments. Additionally, it’s a touchscreen, adding extra functionality.
Huawei Metabook X Pro 2024 Ports:
The Metabook X Pro 2024 has limited ports, similar to a MacBook. On the left side, there are two Thunderbolt ports, and on the right side, a regular USB-C port. There are no full-sized USB-A ports or HDMI port due to the laptop’s slim design. You can use the Thunderbolt ports to connect to an external display. Unfortunately, there’s no memory card slot either, which might be disappointing for some users.
Huawei Metabook X Pro 2024 Windows Hello:
With the Huawei Metabook X Pro 2024, simply open the lid, and within a second or two, the facial recognition technology unlocks your desktop. If your face isn’t cooperating, there’s a fingerprint sensor built into the power button as a backup. This allows quick access to your desktop with just a touch.
Huawei Metabook X Pro 2024 Keyboard & Touchpad:
The keyboard on the Metabook X Pro 2024 stretches across almost the entire width of the laptop, leaving a small space for speaker grills on the sides. It’s a standard chiclet-style keyboard with well-sized keys that are nicely spaced. I didn’t have any issues typing quickly on it. There are a few typical laptop keyboard complaints, like the single-row Enter key. It features adjustable backlighting, which is good enough for working in the evening or late at night. The keyboard feels solid and offers decent key travel, especially considering how thin the laptop is.
The touchpad on the Huawei Metabook X Pro 2024 is the largest possible, extending from the palm rest to the bottom edge. It supports full multi-touch gestures and is quite responsive. However, there’s a minor issue where sometimes my palm accidentally touches the bottom edge, triggering unintended actions.
Huawei Metabook X Pro 2024 Speakers:
The Metabook X Pro 2024 has larger speaker chambers compared to its predecessor, totaling six speakers. At maximum volume, the audio is punchy and loud enough to hear clearly even in a noisy environment. Overall, I’m quite satisfied with the sound quality.
Huawei Metabook X Pro 2024 Camera & Microphones:
The Huawei Metabook X Pro 2024 has a 1080P HD webcam located in the slim top bezel, along with a small LED indicator that lights up when the camera is active in any app. For privacy, there’s a physical switch on the right edge to instantly disable the camera.
Powered by an Intel processor with an NPU (Neural Processing Unit), the laptop offers AI-powered camera features like automatic framing to keep you centered during video calls. There’s also an eye contact tool, although it doesn’t always work perfectly, and background effects that can blur your surroundings to varying degrees.
Additionally, it features a quad-microphone setup that effectively captures your voice even from a distance, minimizing background noise during use.
Huawei Metabook X Pro 2024 Performance & Gaming:
Despite its small size, the Huawei Metabook X Pro 2024 packs a punch in performance. It’s powered by the latest Intel Core Ultra 9 chipset, maxing out at 40W TDP. Huawei’s super turbo Resource Management ensures quick startup and instant app loading, even with multiple apps running simultaneously.
While it doesn’t have a dedicated GPU, graphics are handled by Intel Arc technology. The laptop handles tasks like photo and video editing smoothly. For example, it can export a one-minute YouTube or TikTok video in about 25 to 30 seconds, even on battery power with several apps open.
Though it’s not designed for heavy gaming, you can still play games like Forza Horizons smoothly when plugged in and in performance mode, achieving stable frame rates around 50 FPS on high settings.
Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 Cooling System:
The Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 keeps cool under pressure, whether you’re editing videos or playing games on the go. It features a dual shark fin fan setup that’s larger than before, with improved airflow thanks to a new intake design and quad vent system. Inside, there’s a vapor chamber that helps dissipate heat efficiently.
Even during intense tasks like running Forza in Benchmark mode, the fans spin at their maximum speed without making much noise — they’re whisper quiet. The laptop warms up a bit on the bottom and towards the back edge under heavy load, but it’s not uncomfortably hot. You won’t need to worry about it heating up too much, even during extended use.
By the way, the MateBook X Pro 2024 maintained a high score of nearly 50 frames per second on high graphics mode while running on battery power alone. Overall, its cooling system performs admirably, ensuring smooth operation without overheating issues.
Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 Battery Life:
The Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 comes with a 70Wh battery, providing decent battery life depending on how you use it. In performance mode, you can expect around 5 hours of mixed use on a full charge. Switching to balanced mode extends this to approximately 7 to 8 hours, perfect for a full day of light tasks like watching videos or browsing in Chrome.
For longer days, it’s advisable to carry the charger, especially if you’re commuting to the office. The laptop supports 90W super Turbo Charge, allowing for quick recharges when needed. Additionally, it offers 2TB of storage space, which is ample for storing files and apps.
Overall, the MateBook X Pro 2024 provides reliable battery performance for everyday tasks, with fast charging capabilities to keep you going throughout the day.
