Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Review: What are the advantages and disadvantages?

By Robin Smith

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Review: In 2024, laptop prices have gone up by 25-30%, but the Lenovo Slim 7i 14 offers great value. It’s also called the Yoga Slim 7. Here, I’ll talk about its detailed specs, pros, and cons.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Review with Detailed Specifications

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Design & Build:

The laptop itself is Luna Gray, which looks nice and doesn’t show fingerprints. It feels substantial with minimal screen flex or give on the lid, which is a big plus. It’s pretty thin for a 14-inch laptop.

You can open it with one finger, which is convenient. The keyboard has smile-shaped keys and two speaker grills. Overall, it looks very well made. There’s no power cord, just this single cord, which is minimal for travel.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Display:

Initially, I was a bit disappointed to find out this laptop only had a Full HD Plus resolution of 1920×1200. However, after using the OLED display with this resolution, it makes sense, especially considering the price point. The display has a 60Hz refresh rate, which means it’s better for battery life but not as smooth as higher refresh rate displays like 120Hz or 90Hz.

The display offers excellent color gamut coverage and is very color accurate, making it great for content creation tasks like photo and video editing in applications such as Lightroom, Photoshop, DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, and color grading. It delivers deep blacks, vibrant colors, and high contrast typical of OLED displays. It’s also a touch screen, allowing for easy navigation and pinch-to-zoom gestures, which worked smoothly during my tests.

Lenovo claims 400 nits of brightness, but I actually measured 430 nits, which is even better than expected. It’s a glossy display, so depending on lighting conditions, you may notice some glare and reflections, though it wasn’t too distracting in my use. The display also supports Dolby Vision, providing a great experience for watching high dynamic range (HDR) content on platforms like Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Ports:

On the left side, there is an HDMI 2.1 port and two USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports that support data transfer, charging, and display output. On the right side, there’s a kill switch for the webcam, a power button, a 3.5 mm headphone/microphone combo jack, and a USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 1 port.

However, there’s no SD card reader. It would have been better if the two USB Type-C Thunderbolt ports were on opposite sides instead of being together.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Keyboard & Touchpad:

Keyboard: I really like the keyboard on this laptop. It has Lenovo’s familiar smile-shaped keys found on Yoga and Slim models. There’s also a co-pilot key, which is a new feature for 2024 laptops. It works as expected, bringing up co-pilot features. Typing long documents and emails felt comfortable with good key travel and tactile feedback. The backlight works well in dark rooms.

Touchpad: The touchpad is also very good. It’s responsive and supports scrolling and gestures smoothly. It’s a good size for easy navigation. While it’s not a haptic touchpad, which you might find in more expensive laptops, it still performs well for everyday use.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Copilot:

The Copilot button on the Yoga Slim 7i 14 is designed to help with various tasks using AI. You can use it to summarize articles, generate images, and create HTML websites. Additionally, it also allows you to open applications, turn Bluetooth and WiFi on or off, adjust screen brightness.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Storage:

When it comes to the insides of this laptop, the RAM is soldered onto the motherboard, which means you can’t upgrade it yourself. However, it’s running fast at 7467 MHz, which is only possible with soldered RAM. While this is good for speed, not being able to upgrade it yourself is a downside.

On the bright side, this laptop comes with 32 GB of RAM at this price, which is a good deal compared to others like the MacBook Air, which charges a lot for RAM upgrades. Unlike the MacBook Air, this laptop does have upgradable storage. It comes with a 1TB SSD, which is fast enough for everyday tasks. You can also replace it with a larger 2280 SSD if needed, as there’s space on the motherboard.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Performance, Benchmarks & Gaming:

When comparing the Yoga Slim 7i 14 with laptops like the MacBook Air and Samsung Galaxy Book4 Pro, it shows better multi-core performance thanks to its Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor and Intel Arc graphics. Gaming Performance:

While not primarily a gaming laptop, the Slim 7i can achieve playable frame rates in games like Dota 2 Reborn, GTA V, and F1 23 at various settings. For more intensive gaming, adding an external GPU via its Thunderbolt full ports is a viable option.

  • DOTA 2 REBORN:

LOW (1920×1080): 95 FPS

HIGH (1920×1080): 71 FPS

These benchmarks highlight the Slim 7i’s versatility, making it suitable for both productivity tasks and moderate gaming experiences.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Thermals, Surface Temps & Fan Noise:

Thermal Throttling:

The Yoga Slim 7i scored 96.3% on the Time Spy stress test, indicating minimal thermal throttling under heavy loads.

Surface Temperatures:

  • Above the Keyboard: Surface temperatures can reach 37-38°C, mainly above the keyboard and below the display. This area is out of the way of your fingers, so it remains comfortable to use.
  • Underside: The bottom of the laptop can get quite warm, reaching nearly 50°C, which is higher than ideal but manageable.

Fan Noise:

  • Under Load: Fan noise can reach 47-48 dB under maximum load, which is noticeable.
  • Everyday Use: In balanced mode during regular tasks, fan noise is much less intrusive and not a significant issue.

Overall, the Yoga Slim 7i manages heat well and maintains usability, though it can get warm and loud under heavy use.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Audio & Speake:

The Yoga Slim 7i 14 is compared to the MacBook Pro 14-inch. The MacBook Pro has six speakers with Dolby Atmos, while the Slim 7i has four speakers with Dolby Atmos, providing a total output of 8 watts.

The sound on the Slim 7i is good, but not as great as the MacBook Pro, which is known for its excellent audio. For its price, the Slim 7i’s audio is still very good.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Webcam:

The Yoga Slim 7i 14 features a 1080p webcam for 2024. It’s an IR camera, which means you can use face recognition to log in on Windows 11. There’s also a kill switch on the right side for added security and privacy.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Connectivity:

For wireless connectivity, it has Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3. If you want to upgrade to a more future-proof Wi-Fi 7 card later, that’s an option. Both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth have been working well without any issues.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Battery Life:

The battery life on the Lenovo Slim 7i 14 has been particularly impressive. It features a 65 watt-hour battery, which lasts nearly 10 hours and 20 minutes during the PC Mark 10 modern office test, and almost 13 hours during video playback. These numbers are considered very good in 2024.

Despite having a full HD Plus OLED display, which typically consumes more power, the absence of a high refresh rate or ultra-high resolution helps save battery life.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Price:

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 in 2024 is priced at ₹85,496 for the base model. The version I’m reviewing, which is fully loaded, costs ₹109,990.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 14 2024 Pros & Cons:

Pros:

  • Great value at just over $1,000
  • Comes with 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage
  • OLED display
  • Excellent build quality
  • Great keyboard and touchpad
  • Very good battery life

Cons:

  • A higher resolution display with a higher refresh rate would have been nice but would increase the price
  • No SD card reader

Overall, the Lenovo Slim 7i 14 offers a lot of features and performance for its price, making it a highly recommended laptop for 2024.
