Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 Review: In the last two decades, many of us have turned our passion for gaming into our career. For this reason, nowadays there is a high demand for gaming laptops and Lenovo has been a big player in this market for years. Some years ago, they launched the Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 with Ryzen 5 6600H and RTX 3050, which is still a strong contender in this market. Here’s why you should know the detailed specifications about it.
Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 Review with Detailed Specifications
Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 Design & Build Quality:
It’s built with PC ABS material, giving it a sturdy feel. Despite being a gaming laptop, it has a professional look with Lenovo branding on the lid. The back panel is also made of PC ABS and features air intake vents, rubber grips, and Bluetooth speakers. It has four air exhaust vents for cooling. The laptop is a bit bulky at 2.32 kg but can be opened with one hand and it can be tilted up to 145 degrees. The hinges are smooth, though there’s some screen wobbling due to the material. The design is similar to the previous model, with minimal changes. It has thin bezels but a slightly thick bottom one.

Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 Display:
The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 features a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS Antigua display with a peak brightness of 215 nits, 120Hz refresh rate and covers 45% of the NTSC color gamut. The display quality is decent overall, suitable for watching movies, consuming content, and doing work. However, it only offers 62.5% coverage of the sRGB color gamut, so it’s not ideal for color grading or correction tasks.

Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 Ports:
On the left side, there’s a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port for fast data transfer, along with a combo headphone-microphone jack. On the right side, there’s another USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port.
On the right side, there’s another USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port.

Moving to the back, there’s an HDMI 2.0 port, an RJ45 port for Ethernet, and a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C port. The Type C port supports Power Delivery and Display Port 1.4, so you can charge the laptop with a 100W Type C adapter and share the display via Type C cable. There’s also a power connector for charging the laptop.

Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 Keyboards & Trackpads:
The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 has a full-size 4-zone RGB backlit keyboard, which is impressive for its price range. The keys have a 1.4mm travel distance and provide a great typing experience. Lenovo’s keyboards are known for their quality.
Also, You can customize the keyboard using Lenovo Venture Software, with options like static, breath, smooth, wave right, and wave left effects, as well as brightness control. The keyboard has a nice RGB brightness and offers a variety of color options for each of the four zones. The power button is in the center, and there’s no fingerprint reader due to its gaming focus. The trackpad is a decent size and fully clickable, supporting all Windows 11 multi-gestures. Overall, the experience with the keyboard and trackpad on the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 is very good.
Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 Processor:
It has an AMD Ryzen 5 6600H processor with 6 cores and 12 threads, which means it’s really powerful. The processor doesn’t have specific P-Core or E-Core designations. It has a turbo boost frequency of 4.5GHz. It also comes with Nvidia RTX 3050 graphics with 4GB of VRAM and an 85W TGP.
Compared to other laptops in its price range, like the HP Victus with RTX 2050 graphics or Asus laptops with the same graphics, which have lower power (HP Victus: 50W TGP and Asus stuff: 70W TGP) limits, but Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 offers a full-fledged RTX 3050 for gaming, which is pretty amazing for its price. It’s likely to stay in the market for a while.
It has 8GB and 16GB of DDR5, 4800MHz dual-channel RAM, and you can add up to 16GB more according to the brand’s guidelines. This product specification gives clear details about the laptop’s capabilities, including how much RAM you can add and what type of storage you can use.
Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 Operating system & MS OFFICE:
This laptop has a fast 512GB Gen 4 solid-state hard drive (SHD) with impressive read and write speeds: 3214Mbps for reading and 3142Mbps for writing. Plus, it has an extra slot for adding up to 2TB of SHD in the future, with each slot supporting up to 1TB. It also features Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and AMD Radeon integrated graphics with 7.6GB shared GPU memory. It comes with Windows 11 Home single language operating system and Microsoft Office Home and Student 2021 Laptop License.

Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 Gaming Performance:
Here are the gaming performance for the Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3,
First, I played GTA 5 on very high settings without V-Sync, and it performed excellently with over 100 FPS. Both the CPU and GPU were fully utilized, and the temperatures stayed under control.
Next, I tried Valorant on high settings at Full HD resolution and easily got over 160 FPS. The laptop’s thermal performance was impressive, with temperatures staying below 65-66 degrees.
Then, I played CS2 at default settings and achieved over 150 FPS. The game pushed both the CPU and GPU, resulting in higher temperatures, but the gameplay remained smooth without any issues.
Moving on to RDR2, I tested it with and without DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling). With DLSS on, I got better FPS and slightly higher CPU usage but also higher temperatures. However, the gameplay was smooth in both conditions.
Finally, I played Far Cry 6 on Ultra settings and got around 60 FPS with full GPU usage and maintained temperatures.
Overall, the Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 performed well with AAA titles at Full HD resolution and medium to Ultra settings, with temperatures staying under 80 degrees and providing a good gaming experience.
Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 Lenovo Ventus Software Features:
The Lenovo Vantage software is available on this laptop, allowing you to view various stats and information about your device. In the Lenovo Edge section, you can choose different thermal modes like Balance, Performance Mode, or Quiet Mode, and customize them to your preference. It also offers features like GPU overclocking and Network Boost, as well as system tools for updates and power management. You can adjust various settings and configurations using this software.
Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 Battery Life:
The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 has a 60Wh battery. With 50% brightness, backlit turned off, and optimized settings, you can expect 4-5 hours of battery life.
However, heavy usage in full performance mode will drain the battery in 2-3 hours. It comes with a 170W AC adapter for fast charging, taking 1-1.5 hours to fully charge, thanks to Rapid Fast Charging technology.
Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 Thermal Performance:
I didn’t notice any overheating problems with this laptop. The CPU temperature stayed below 70-80 degrees Celsius. The laptop has good ventilation, so it stays cool rather than getting hot.
Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 Speaker Performance:
The speakers on the IdeaPad Gaming 3 are fantastic, offering enhanced audio quality compared to previous models. The NAMIC audio has been improved, providing a better listening experience for music and movies.
Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 MUX Switch:
The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 doesn’t have a MUX switch, so you can’t use the dedicated graphics for display output. If you connect an external monitor, the display will use the integrated graphics instead.
Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 Video Editing or Photoshop Test on Premiere Pro:
I tested video editing on the Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 using Adobe Premiere Pro. Editing up to Full HD resolution is smooth thanks to the 16GB DDR5 RAM and RTX 3050 graphics with 85W TGP. However, editing 4K footage from a camera may not be ideal unless you upgrade to a laptop with RTX 4050 graphics. Editing 4K iPhone footage is manageable though. Camera footage is heavy, so a good graphics card and CPU are needed for proper real-time rendering. Overall, the timeline ran smoothly, transitions worked well, and rendering speed was good.
I also tried color grading in Adobe Photoshop’s Camera Raw Filter, and it worked smoothly. The laptop is suitable for graphic design and Photoshop work.
Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 3D Modeling & Android Development:
If you’re into 3D modeling with Blender, the Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 can handle intermediate-level projects. For advanced 3D modeling, it’s better to go for a laptop with RTX 4050 graphics and either a Ryzen 7 6800H or Intel i5 13th Gen processor.
If you’re into coding, Android development, web development, or AutoCAD work, you’ll be able to do it smoothly without any issues on the Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3.
Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 Webcam:
The IdeaPad Gaming 3 comes with a 720p HD webcam and dual array integrated microphone. It also has privacy settings to ensure security. The webcam offers good quality, especially with the noise-canceling microphone.
